Easy German Chocolate Cake
Additional ingredients to prepare cake mix per package instructions
1 tablespoon butter
1 cup pecan pieces
1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
PREPARE cake mix according to package directions. Divide batter into 3 prepared (8-inch) round cake pans. Bake and cool according to package directions, but reduce baking time to 19 to 22 minutes.
MELT butter in large skillet over medium heat. Add pecan pieces. Cook and stir 2 to 3 minutes or until lightly toasted. Remove from skillet. Let cool.
PLACE 1 cake layer on serving plate, rounded side down. Top with about 1 cup frosting. Repeat cake and frosting layers two more times. Arrange cooled pecans on frosting on top of cake.
MICROWAVE chocolate in small heavy-duty plastic bag on HIGH 35 to 45 seconds or until melted and smooth when kneaded. Cut small corner off bag. Drizzle over cake.
